The Destruction of Babylon
Isaiah 13:19: "And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah."
Isaiah 34:8: "For it is the day of the LORD's
vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of
Zion."
Isaiah 34:9: "And the streams thereof shall be
turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the
land thereof shall become burning pitch."
Isaiah 34:10: "It shall not be quenched night
nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation
to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for
ever and ever."
2 Esdras 15:43: “And they” [The clouds] “shall go stedfastly unto
Babylon, and make her afraid.”
2 Esdras 15:44: “They” [The clouds] “shall come to her,” [Babylon] “and
besiege her,” [Babylon] “the star" [Christ] "and all wrath shall they"
[Christ, the angels and the 144,000] "pour out upon her:"
[Babylon] "then shall the dust and
smoke go up unto the heaven, and all they” [The people alive on earth] “that be
about her” [Babylon] “shall bewail her.”
Revelation 18:1: “And after these things I” [John]
“saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth
was lightened with his glory.”
Revelation 18:2: “And he” [The angel]
“cried mightily with a
strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen,
and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every
foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and
hateful bird.”
Revelation 18:8: “Therefore shall her” [Babylon’s]
“plagues come in one day," [The Day of the Lord]
"death, and
mourning, and famine; and she” [Babylon] “shall be
utterly burned with
fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth
her.”
Revelation 18:9: “And the kings of the earth, who have
committed fornication and lived deliciously with her,” [Babylon]
“shall bewail her,
and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her
burning,”
Revelation 18:10: “Standing afar off” [In
other places of the earth including the Valley of Decision] “for the fear of her” [Babylon's] “torment, saying,
Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in
one hour is thy judgment come.”
