2 Thessalonians 2:3-8

The Man of Sin

2 Thessalonians 2:3: “Let no man” [The man of sin] “deceive you by any means: for that day" [The second coming of Christ] "shall not come, except there come a falling away first,” [People in the churches leaving Christ] “and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;”

2 Thessalonians 2:4: “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God,” [The man of sin, opposed the teachings of the Most High, Christ and his disciples] “or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God,” [The temple of God in Jerusalem, destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD] “shewing himself that he" [The man of sin] "is God.”

2 Thessalonians 2:5: “Remember ye not, that, when I" [Paul] "was yet with you," [The people in the church of the Thessalonians] "I" [Paul] "told you these things?” Paul taught these things when he taught at the church of the Thessalonians.

2 Thessalonians 2:6: “And now ye know what withholdeth” [What had to be fulfilled] “that he” [The man of sin] “might be revealed in his time.” His time is explained in verse 8.

2 Thessalonians 2:7: “For the mystery of iniquity doth already work:” [During the time of this letter, to the church of the Thessalonians, the “man of sin” was on the earth and in the process of fulfilling what was written about him] “only he” [The Most High] “who now” [During that time period] “letteth will let,” [The “man of sin” continue in his wickedness] “until he” [The man of sin] “be taken out of the way.” Put to death.

2 Thessalonians 2:8: “And then” [After his death] “shall that Wicked be revealed,” [as a liar and deceiver] “whom the Lord” [Christ when he returns] “shall” [Future prophesy] “consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:”
